“Art washes away from the soul, the dust of everyday life.” Pablo Picasso.

Now more than ever, we need that.

“Follow Me.” 30″ X 24″ Acrylic on canvas.

I was commissioned to paint this image of Jesus leading two sheep along the Jordan River. The 12 stones in the foreground represent the 12 tribes of Israel. It was a Christmas gift. The smiles say it all. That’s why I love doing what I do. This painting will be a family heirloom, from parents to children, to their children and so on, down through the ages to come. Real art — paintbrush to canvas — last for hundreds of years. Thousands, in some case.

I am Ziana de Bethune — artist, author, vocalist, and musician. To read a bit more about my bio, please click here.

With art, almost everything I do is “old school,” meaning, actual paint brushes, actual messy paint, applied to actual canvas (or sketches/illustrations to paper.) Now and then I use creative software for book covers, as necessary.

It depends what people want as an end product. I’ve recently worked directly with Hay House to design a cover, and other times directly with authors. I’ve designed nearly all of my own covers…and why not, if I’m able to, right? I paint for my own pleasure and I also take on commission work. In the navigation bar above you’ll find the categories of work that I’ve done. Not all of my paintings are on this website, but many are.

“The Musician.” Jan 1, 2024. Starting the new year with the biggest painting I’ve ever done. 48″ X 30″. Acrylic on gallery quality canvas. I’ve been using a different technique that was used by the old master artists called, “glazing.” It’s amazing how this one change keeps the colours of acrylics bright and fresh, since acrylics do tend to “dry down,” and don’t normally retain their bright colours the way oils do.

Blog Post: “Good Enough Isn’t Good Enough.”

No, I’m not talking about feeling “good enough” for anyone else. That’s another topic for another blog idea, and that could be a long…um…opinionated one.

I’m talking about the arts, and the fear of reaching the point of redundancy with the stuff I turn out. That can happen very easily when you’ve been doing anything for so long that you get to feeling you’re at the top of your game. You’re not. I’m not… (Read More)

Princesses, Queens and Kings don’t hire someone to digitally produce an image of themselves, and then frame a printed copy to hang. They hire an actual artist (old school style) to do it. You can have this done, too, and my rates are far more reasonable than the artist hired by Nobels. If you wish to be painted in 16th, 17th, or 18th Century clothing, a queen or princess maybe, or a swashbuckler, I can do that! Your imagination has no limits. Neither has mine.

To the right is a self-portrait, done in a style reminiscent of the Rembrandt era, with the subdued lighting, white lace collar and rich skin tones.

I can also paint your beloved fur-babies. To the left is a portrait of Bella and Oreo, done as a pet memorial by commission.

If you’re interested in hiring me to paint a portrait or whatever else you had in mind, please contact me.

The Bridge.

“The Bridge” Acrylic on canvas. 24″ X 18″. $395. USD (plus $45 shipping and handling.) As with all other paintings, this one also comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.

A wedding painting. 20″ X 16″ Acrylic on Canvas. Not for sale. No prints available. If you want YOUR painting done, please contact me.

Please write, “I’d like a painting done” in the subject line. Thank you.

I’ve recently updated this site, adding a few more paintings, and a slightly new look. I’ve added a GOOGLE TRANSLATOR for those whose first language is not english, in the right column. Click on the language you like and the translator will translate the site to that language. Hopefully, it will be accurate.

I’ve also added a category, “Whimsical,” which is where you’ll find my most recent painting, “Just Be,” shown in the sidebar to the right.

If you see anything you’d really love to own, but it’s already been sold, don’t despair because I can paint you a similar one. It won’t be exactly the same, because there’s just something ethically wrong about selling an original and then replicating it for someone else. What you end up with will be something just for you and you alone.

I use a variety of mediums, because I enjoy them all: Charcoal, acrylic, oil, pencils, different methods of adding texture, and so on. I try not to limit myself. I’m about to dabble in gold leaf, which should be interesting. Art is never boring for me.

All of my art is for sale unless otherwise stated. If you want to purchase any of my art, or would like me to have prints made for you, please contact me.

Not all of my paintings are shown in here because sometimes they sell before the paint is dry, so I ship them off without taking pictures at times.

This one sold before the paint was dry, and I can’t tell how how it thrills me when this happens. For some reason, it spoke to the buyer so powerfully that she HAD to have it. That’s what art is about.

It’s interesting how some paintings just go straight to the heart of certain people. That’s why I do what I do. For the love of it, and because it touches hearts. Terri Guillemets said, “An artist makes visual the rhythms and arrhythmias of the universe.” How fitting! Other times a paintings will sit for quite some time until it finds its forever home. That’s the way it is with art.

A portrait of my friend, Paula.

I also do specialized commission work, murals, book covers, pet memorials, portraits…the whole gambit. You can also connect with me on Facebook. I have an artist site there and a personal site. The image to the left is done with colored pencils, believe it or not.

Thanks so much for visiting, and please bookmark this site.
